Iain Hives is a minor character found in F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon. He is heard mostly in voicemails scattered throughout the game, however, his phantom is encountered by the Point Man in Interval 06 - Interception - Afterimage.

F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon[]
Iain Hives was the supervisor of the Origin anomalies task force that was working under Harlan Wade. Despite his position on the project, it is made clear that he was not aware of the full extent of Project Origin. Nevertheless, he does attempt to keep information from Bill Moody, ignoring his concerns about Armacham Technology Corporation involvement in the contamination of the Auburn District.
Hives' limited knowledge of the Origin project is, nonetheless, enough to warrant him being directly targeted for silencing by Armacham Security; shortly after, Aldus Bishop is killed by ATC's security guards. The guards can be heard saying that they are also searching for both Hives and Alice Wade.
In one voicemail, Hives, at the request of Alice Wade, warns Norton Mapes about his questionable behavior toward her, stating that a sexual harassment case would bring the project into the open.
Hives' phantom is seen once by the Point Man, just outside of his office, at which point the phantom tells the Point Man "It wasn't my fault..." before disappearing. It is unclear who killed Hives, as shortly after the encounter, the Point Man overhears ATC security guards saying that they have not seen Hives or found his body. It can be assumed that he was likely killed by the Replica Forces, given that his phantom doesn't appear to have signs associated with murders committed by Alma Wade or Paxton Fettel.
After encountering Hives' phantom, the Point Man will be sent in a hallucination, in which Hives can be heard saying, "I didn't know!" Immediately after the hallucination ends, Hives then says "I didn't understand", further proving his ignorance of the dark nature of Project Origin. After this, he is never seen nor heard again.

Like most of the other deceased ATC employees, he is seen in the last Hallucination. Hives can be observed, repeatedly hitting his head on a wall of his cell.
Trivia[]
- Curiously, Iain Hives' phantom can be partially seen before walking close to him. It appears that he's waiting for the Point Man near his office, which is unusual as other phantoms are not seen doing this behavior.
