Twenty years before the events of F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon, the Auburn District was used as the home of the top secret Origin Facility, an underground establishment that was the base for Project Origin. The Origin Facility was abandoned in 2005 due to a Synchronicity Event that led to the deaths of several Armacham Technology Corporation staffers. After that, chemicals left within the building leaked into the waters, sickening people in the immediate area. Combined with that and the corrosive rage of Alma Wade which intensified the effects of the chemicals, it lead to the abandonment of the entire district.
In 2025, Armacham president Genevieve Aristide attempted to reopen the Origin Facility, causing the destructive effects of Alma's hate to multiply. Armacham assembled a task force to investigate the contamination, but a second Synchronicity Event brought a halt to the company's investigation.
F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault ReconEdit
The Auburn District appears towards the end of F.E.A.R., having already been evacuated by the Metro Police Department due to fallout from the second Synchronicity Event. The Point Man first enters Auburn after a helicopter crash in Interval 08. There, he fights his way through an abandoned apartment complex and numerous streets and alleyways on his way to the Origin Facility, where he hopes to destroy Alma Wade.
Once inside the facility, the Point Man is able to detonate the building's reactor cells, triggering a nuclear explosion that destroys the entirety of the Auburn District and much of Fairport.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project OriginEdit
In F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point, the UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter that Jin Sun-Kwon, Douglas Holiday and the Point Man are on crash lands outside the Auburn District a few miles from the Delta Force extraction point at Auburn Memorial Hospital. The Point Man uses the subway system to leave the area.
