Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well.
Like you, I am a big fan of F.E.A.R., and wish very much that the series was still active. Thankfully, I believe I have found a method of giving us all a way to still enjoy the series outside of the original games. I am sure you are all familiar with the video game Left 4 Dead 2 and are aware of the extensive mods people make for this game on Steam Workshop. I have discovered a large number of mods that do an excellent job of making it feel more like playing a F.E.A.R. game.
First and foremost are the mods that are completely F.E.A.R. related, such as replacing the Witch with Alma Wade, the Smoker with the Creep, and the survivors with Replica soldiers. There are also additional mods that replace the menu music with the F.E.A.R theme, the credits song with Danzig’s Mother, and others that add F.E.A.R. blood textures, weapons, and sound effects. There is even a spray mod that allows child Alma to randomly pop up throughout the level.
There are also additional mods that can go along with these, like turning the sky red, having it raining blood, and many mods that make the Infected resemble Alma’s apparitions. I have also found many campaigns that already look/feel like F.E.A.R. levels, such as suburban areas, office settings, and underground facilities.
Since we may sadly never see another official F.E.A.R. game, I believe that we are sitting on a golden opportunity that will allow us to continue to enjoy the series thanks to these mods. However, I believe we can take it even further than the current state, as there are many more mods that could be added, such as character models, weapon skins, sound effects, and levels. If the modding community is able to take full advantage of this, we may never run out of ways to keep enjoying F.E.A.R.
If you have any questions, please let me know and have a wonderful rest of your day!
